The Rambo Young-skipped team, which also included Mal Altmann, Mouse Holland, and Brent McKenzie, had a huge win against their opponents, 45-5. Dylan Marchant led his team including Shaun Marchant, Rod Howchin, and Maxine Elsom to a very good win in their game with the score being 38-3. It was a battle of the giants in this game with the opposing leads being Maxine Elsom and Dennis Firth (well-known retired Coonamble jockey). Dennis gained a lot of firsts in his riding career at the Gilgandra racetrack but it was a different story on the greens at the Gil Sporties where he ran a very distant second. He did lodge a protest but it was quickly dismissed. All in good fun. The Fox Raines-skipped team, which also included Blake Cooke, Norm Lummis, and Larry Clark went down in a close game, with the lead changing hands several times. The final score was 20-14.

Gilgandra’s grade seven team travelled to West Dubbo where they were defeated 71-48 (9-1). Christine Howchin, Shayne Barwick, Bob Dicks, and Gil Riley were the only winners with the score being 21-18. Stacey Reynolds, Leroy Gregory, Jayden Doran, and Baden Fisher went down 34-11 as did Dave Jones, Andrew Townsend, Bruce Parker, and Wenden Riley who had a close loss, 19-16. This Sunday the grade five team will be at home against Baradine while the sevens will travel to Gulgong. The grade five team is, Jo and Fox Raines, Blake Cook, Norm Lummis, Dylan Marchant, Danial Riley, Rod Howchin, Maxine Elsom, Rambo Young, Brent McKenzie, Tracey Riley, and Mal Altmann.

Last Wednesday’s social bowls: A terrific field of 26 bowlers enjoyed a game of social bowls last Wednesday, April 17. In other games, Maxine Elsom, Bruce Parker, and Bob Dicks had a win against Mal Altmann, Dave Jones, and Greg (visitor), 17-8. Jeff Jones, James L’Homme, and Dylan Marchant pipped Mike Newstead, Bob Rogers, and Rod Howchin, 22-21. Mouse Holland and Jayden Doran beat Ed Wlodarczyk and Gil Riley, 21-15.
