Only one match went ahead across the 2024/2025 Bendigo Bank ABC Shield cricket last Saturday, October 19, with Biddon-Tooraweenah taking advantage of two abandoned fixtures to claim outright first place on the table. Wet weather affected all matches, with the scheduled matches between Gulargambone and Town Services CCC set down for Gulargambone, and the Gidgee versus Coonabarabran fixtures both washed out.

In Gilgandra, the only match of the round played between Biddon-Tooraweenah and Curban was moved from turf to a synthetic wicket. Biddon-Tooraweenah scored a 12-run win against Curban in Gilgandra after winning the toss and electing to bat in the round two Gilgandra District Cricket Association competition fixture.

Jon Kilby (31), Luke Harrison (24), Paul Lambell (22), Clint Walker (15), Jaimie Zell (14), and Bevan Peart (14) all made important contributions for Biddon-Tooraweenah to graft out a competitive score of 9-140 from its allotted 40 overs after losing both openers cheaply. Will Lambell (3-12 from three overs) then starred with the ball as Curban was bowled out for 128. Harrison (2-9 from four overs), Kilby (2-18 from eight overs), Paul Lambell (1-33 from eight overs), Jeremy Cosier (1-26 from six overs), and Walker (1-29 from seven overs) were Biddon-Tooraweenah’s other wicket-takers.

Curban fought hard throughout the contest and were at one stage 5-119 in the thirty-second over, looking like a great chance of victory. However, the dismissal of Curban top-scorer Jasen Starr (39), when he was caught by Walker off Will Lambell’s bowling, proved critical, with Curban losing 5-9 to fall short of the target, being bowled out in the 36th over.

Stu Younghusband (31), Kane Younghusband (22), and Luke Haling (21) also contributed with the bat for Curban. Best with the ball for Curban were Anthony Barry (3-20 off five overs), Doug Kelly (2-20 from seven overs), and Starr (2-27 from six overs), while Kane (1-26 off six overs) and Stu Younghusband (1-14 off five overs) both picked up a wicket each.

It means after two rounds that Biddon-Tooraweenah (14 points) lead the competition, with Curban and Gular both on 10 points. Town Services and Coonabarabran Kookaburras Senior Mixed are both on eight points, with Gidgee and USC-Marthaguy on five points.

In round three fixtures on Saturday, October 26, Town Services will host Coonabarabran at McGrane Oval, while USC-Marthaguy are home to Curban at Warren, and Gidgee host Gulargambone at Coonamble in the other fixture. Current competition leaders Biddon-Tooraweenah have the bye.
