Wednesday’s social bowls

There were 15 participants at social bowls last Wednesday, December 4.

Only nine ends were completed due to the rain. The winners with the most ends plus a win were James L’Homme, Garry Garbutt (swinger) and David Jones who defeated Bob Rogers and Mal Altmann, 12-9.

In other games, Bruce Parker, Ed Wlodarczyk and Dylan Marchant defeated Wendy and Jim (Lake Conjola) and Noel Raines, 7-6.

Marg Hourn and Larry (Gular) defeated The Youngs, being Kelly and Rambo, 9-4.

Sunday’s social bowls
The winners of Sunday social bowls were Mal Altmann and Mouse Holland who defeated Bob Rogers and Jayden Doran, 21-11.

The final of the B-Grade Singles Championships was played between two very likeable lads, being Wenden Riley and Blake Cook. This game was played on Saturday, December 7.

Wenden started off very well and held the lead up until the 12th end when Blake then gained the lead and held it until 18th end when Wenden snaffled himself four shots to be right back in contention.

This was a turning point in the game as Wenden then went on to win nine of the last 11 ends and claimed the victory, 32-20.

This was a very good game and was closer than the score indicated with both bowlers playing great bowls. Congratulations Wenden! Have fun in A grade from now on.

The semi-finals of the A grade Singles will be played next Saturday with Danial Riley taking on one of the clubs most experienced and knowledge bowlers, being Rambo Young.

Dylan Marchant will take on Noel Raines in the other semi. Fearless prediction is Rambo and Dylan will go on to fight out the final of this event. Good luck to all players.

Gilgandra Sporties hosts a round of the Mid-West Open Reserve State Singles

Over the weekend the Sporties also hosted a round of the Mid-West Open Reserve State Singles.

Both Noel and Garry Raines had wins in the first round with the other Gil bowlers having a bye.

The quarter finals resulted in Danial Riley defeating Dylan Marchant, Noel Raines defeated David Duffy, Jayden Doran had a win against David Jones as did Garry Raines in playing John Fraser.

Moving onto the semi-finals Fox then went on to defeat Danial Riley in what was a great display of bowling, 25-22. The remaining semi resulted in a close win to Garry Raines against Jayden Doran, 25-20.

Special mention goes to Jayden who is playing great focused bowls of late and is very capable of mixing with the more experienced bowlers.

Come Sunday afternoon the final of this event was a battle between the Raines brothers, Noel and Garry.

The fire brigade was nearly called a few times as The Fox was on fire and didn’t show any brotherly love to his sibling at all.

Noel won this game in convincing style, 25-11 and will now move on to the next division which will be played in early 2025.
