Wednesday’s Social Bowls

A lot of bowling activity has been held during the past week, starting with social bowls last Wednesday, November 6, 2024. The winners of the afternoon were Mal Altmann, Bob Rogers, Garry Garbutt (swinger), and Shaun Marchant.

Sunday social bowls winners were Michele Doherty and Jayden Doran, who defeated Harmony Raines and her great pop, Bruce Parker. This was Michele’s first victory in bowls, and she played an excellent game with her new set of bowls.

Championships Moving Along Nicely

Quite a few championship games were also played, which is great to see.

In B-grade singles, Jayden Doran had a very hard-fought win against David Jones, with the score being 31-28. In other games, Blake Cook had a win against Lucy McKenzie, while Wenden Riley defeated Tracey Riley. David Duffy defeated Kel Kilsby, and Macca McKenzie gained the win against Stacey Reynolds.

In A-grade singles, Danial Riley defeated Jayden Doran, 31-18. Dylan Marchant had a win against his big brother Shaun, 31-16.

The game of the round was between Jo Raines and Rambo Young, in which Rambo gained the win, 31-15. Jo played very good bowls, but ‘last bowl,’ Rambo took a lot of Jo’s well-placed shots with his very last bowl of the end on many occasions.

The good news is Rambo now progresses to the semi-final. The even better news is he has now lifted the media ban and has promised an exclusive interview if he were to go on and take out the A-grade title.

NSW Open Reserve Pairs

Four Gilgandra bowlers ventured to Coonamble on Saturday to contest a round of the NSW Open Reserve Pairs.

The winners of this event were the Raines brothers, Noel and Garry, who will now move into the next round to be played in Parkes. Stacey Reynolds and David Jones also played in this competition.

The winner of the appreciation award was our head barbecue cook, Bob Rogers. Rambo also won a prize for being the most mentioned bowler in The Gilgandra Weekly bowls news.

A great night was had by all, particularly the karaoke, which was led by the karaoke king, Danial ‘DJ’ Riley. Jade Thompson and Shaun Marchant were the standout singers on the night.
