Local firefighters were called to a car fire underneath a busy Gilgandra bridge early last Thursday morning, March 21, 2024. Crews arrived to find a car alight under the Jack Renshaw Bridge, but teams were able to stop any threat of the fire spreading beyond nearby grass. The small vehicle was destroyed in the blaze.
The Jack Renshaw Bridge sits above the Castlereagh River and is a major thoroughfare for traffic entering Gilgandra from Coonabarabran or continuing to either Dubbo, Warren, or Coonamble. “Just before 4am, crews responded to a car fire under the Jack Renshaw bridge,” the Fire and Rescue NSW Station 300 Gilgandra Facebook page reported. “Fire crews arrived to find a fully engulfed car that was quickly spreading to nearby grass. The fire was quickly extinguished by crews with no impact to traffic.”
