The extraordinary meeting was opened at 10:05am by general manager David Neeves with all elected councillors present. Crs Brian Mockler, Doug Batten, Madeline Foran, Amber Bunter, Ashley Walker, Paul Mann, Greg Peart, Ian Freeth, and Nicholas White will all be representing the interests of Gilgandra as part of council.

Nationals candidate for the federal seat of Parkes, Jamie Chaffey, was also present to witness the event, as well as some of the councillors' family members. During the meeting, each councillor was asked to either take an oath or a pledge to officially join council. Once each councillor had been officially sworn in, the first order of business was to elect the Gilgandra Shire Council’s mayor and deputy mayor.

There was only one nomination for mayor, that being from Cr Batten. As there were no further nominations, no election was held, and so Doug Batten was duly reinstated as mayor.

Shortly thereafter, Cr Walker was reinstated as deputy mayor, with no contesting nominations for the position.

Finally, council affirmed the dates and times of proceeding council meetings. No change was made to the previous monthly schedule.
