Evening branch president Jess Reed welcomed all members and visitors.

She also thanked the members who cooked and travelled to Dubbo on the evening of March 10 to serve a fabulous dinner at the Macquarie Home Stay. That is always so appreciated by all patients and their carers. As well the CWA Windmill Yarners and their friends completed 20 beautiful knee Rugs for the cancer patients at Macquarie Home Stay. A wonderful night was had by everyone.

At the March 19 meeting, members were told that 2025 conference information for delegates is in the February Journal, CWA Show kiosk donations are also welcome. Jams, preserves, fruit cakes etc please have your donated goods ready by early April, as the Royal Easter Show is held in April. All donations are very much appreciated.

The CWA Market Day was a great success. Michael Cain from WAR FM has offered to provide music at the CWA Market Days. All reports were well-received.

International Report

The country of study for 2025 is The Republic of Korea. The national flag of the Republic of Korea has a white background with red and blue circles in the centre and four black trigrams in each corner.  This flag has a white rectangular back ground, symbolising, purity, brightness and peace.

Members completed four wonderful pin cushions to be entered in the Macquarie Group handicraft section at the 2025 conference in Wagga Wagga.

Land Cookery

All members who received first prize for their cakes/slices at branch level will need to cook the same cake/slice for the Macquarie Group cooking competition (good luck) as the winner from each category will go to state for judging.

Agriculture/Environment Report

CWA of NSWS Foe for 2025 is the common Indian myna bird (acridotheres tristis) or “flying cane toad”. The common myna bird is a species of bird originally from Asia that was brought to Australia in the late 1800s, they have since spread across the eastern coast of Australia, and out west along highways where they predominantly inhabit urban areas. Myna can and will quickly take over areas and drive out native species.

Publicity Report

Publicity Support Forum: our first webinar for 2025 on March 1 was a huge success. Heather Ewart from the ABC “Back Roads” was our special guest speaker. Heather spoke about her amazing career 50 years as a journalist and tv host. Back in the early days, becoming a journalist was a huge challenge for women. But Heather was determined to follow her passion as a journalist and is much respected amongst her peers. She will retire this year.

The newly elected honorary editor for the Country Woman Journal is Brenda Michaud, a CWA member from Terrigal.
