Gilgandra Junior Cricket Report
Gilgandra 12B Lightning were one of the few teams to get a game in on the weekend at Ernie Knight in between a few showers of rain and with some of the quickest player and innings changeovers around!
Taking on Newtown Tigers, Lightning played their best game to date and came within just three runs of their maiden win.
It should be mentioned that the 12B Lightning team are all new players to the competition, with the majority of the kids aged around nine so to be competing at the level they are is an impressive effort in itself.
Bowling first, Gilgandra Lightning 12B put in a great effort, taking five wickets in total and bowling very few extras and limiting Newtown to 82 runs off the bat.
Thomas Colwell took 2-6 and Hannah Peart, Hugh Harvey and Janos Nithilan Rajan all took one wicket each.
After a few short rain delays and the scorers keeping track in between rain drops on the iPad and scorebook, Lightning took to the crease with the sights set on a win.
Hannah top scored with 11 runs off 15 balls and was well supported by the rest of the team, Janos adding nine and with the team scoring 83 runs off the bat.
The team fell just short, the difference being Newtown took six wickets (24 runs added from 82 to 106) to Lightning’s five (20 runs added from 83 to 103), as each wicket translates in four penalty runs to the opposite team.
Such a great effort from the team who are getting closer to their maiden win.
Meanwhile, Gilgandra’s 12A Thunder and the combined 14A Wello/Gil team didn’t get their games in due to the rain.
Gilgandra Thunder 12A was 3-58 off 14 overs in its clash against Dubbo Rugby when the clash was abandoned. Lachlan Fisher (18 not out) and Jackson Towns (eight not out) were both unbeaten when the rain fell.
The Gilgandra/Wellington under-14A combined side has its match against Narromine Junior Bombers abandoned without a ball being bowled.
In rep cricket, Mitch Cosier played in the under-13s Western Plains Outlaws team on Sunday in Orange in a warm up for their upcoming carnival in Wellington.
The team came around with a strong win over Central West with the boys looking forward to the variety of one day and T20 games next week.
Georgia Allen and Evie Peart Western Zone Girls team also played a round game over the weekend with game results to be provided next week.
The girls are also off to a representative carnival in Bathurst next week, good luck!
