Goldwind exploring potential wind farm
Goldwind Australia have announced that they are exploring the potential for a wind farm in the region.
The possible site is located near Milpulling Creek, southwest from the township of Gilgandra.
The proposed Milpulling Wind Farm falls within the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). The full-scale project area could host up to 145 wind turbines depending on electricity network upgrades in the REZ, and would provide up to 1130MW of electricity, powering up to 740,000 typical NSW homes. The project may be completed in stages with a smaller stage one of approximately 23 wind turbines going ahead first which would provide an estimated 179 MW of electricity into the existing electricity network.
“From our initial investigations, the proposed site is well suited to develop a wind farm with excellent wind resource, simple terrain, and the ability to coexist with existing agricultural practices,” said Kurt Hansen, project origination manager at Goldwind.
“After more community consultation, we plan to submit a scoping report to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure. The scoping report will identify social and environmental factors that influence the project design and what should be further investigated during the environmental assessment stage.”
“We have undertaken early consultation with residents and are keen to collect more community views and feedback on the project. We are hosting drop-by sessions in Gilgandra and Collie. We would love to talk to locals, answer questions, and get feedback.”
“A development of this scale would create significant local commercial, community and employment benefits throughout its lifetime and will be a key contributor to the NSW Renewable Energy Roadmap to see cleaner and cheaper energy available for NSW,” said Mr. Hansen.
