First Grade

The Bourke/Brewarrina team were first to score and led 5-nil. It was not long after that the Gular B-F.A.B (Baby Faced Assassin Backline) began swinging into gear and wingers Darcy Neeves and Elten Walker began troubling their opposition with great balls from Zac Ferguson and Jaylem Peters.

Shortly after, winger Elten Walker found space down the left side. He ran down the sideline and showed the speed of his father from about 25-years-ago, to score and the game was tied up at five-all. Jaylem Peters, as cool as a cucumber, slotted the conversion over and Gular-gambone led 7-5. Tempers began to get a little heated towards half-time and within the space of seven minutes, three players were yellow carded for infringements by the referee. Two from Bourke/Bre and one from Gular.

Bourke/Bre were next to score and at half-time, the scoreline read 10-7 in favour of the visitors.

The second half became a grind and dominated by both forward packs. Most of the game was played in Bourke/Bre’s half with the Gular forwards dominating. Special mention goes to forward Lachy Ferguson who was outstanding in defence and around loose play in the breakdown along with half Tim Bowman, who was at his scheming best in the breakdown. Jaylem Peters was also exceptional in the centres in attack and defence and is also playing well beyond his years. Jaylem had a vast cheer squad on the eastern side of the ground to watch him.

As hard as the Gular pack tried, they could not get over the tryline and at full-time the score remained 10-7 in favour of Bourke/Brewarrina.

Points for the game as follows: Jack Bradley three points, Tim Bowman two points, Lachy Ferguson one point, and player’s player to Tim Bowman.

The competition will now rest for the long weekend. All attention is now set for a fortnight away, with what will be a very special and emotional day being Sara’s Ladies Day at Gulargambone Oval. The theme for the day is a ‘touch of pink’. Tickets for the ladies’ tent are selling fast.

The Gular first grade and the Flamin’ Galahs will be ready to take on arch-foes the Coonamble Rams and Ewes on this day. See you in ‘Birdtown’!
