Why have you decided to run for council?

Over the years I have had community members encourage me to do so.

One gentleman came to my door and insisted on it, he must have seen something in me.

I wasn’t ready then, I am now.

Not having had my own family, I guess I have really transferred all that love to the community young, old and everywhere in between.

Gil means a lot to me, and I look forward to being involved in the robust conversation that will shape the future.

What project/s are you most interested in this new term?

People and anything that effects people.

Their health, care, financial opportunities, education, and their environment. My agenda is to maximise the outcome from every dollar spent/invested and any works undertaken for this community.

This community works hard, pays rates and deserves to have us work hard to deliver for them.

What are some of the key issue/s you plan to focus on?

Economic vitality, roads, encouraging the community to source opportunities along with simple things like having the pool open that week early for the Goin’ To Gil-Under The Gums Festival Weekend. Getting bang for your buck in all our endeavours - I see so many exciting initiatives taken on by the council and see opportunities that we can draw out of many of them, especially providing experiences for our youth.

What is your professional background and other community involvements i.e groups, volunteer roles?

I was brought up in a family business, farming and grazing here in Gilgandra, providing a lot of labour and bookkeeping.

I feel so fortunate to have been surrounded by a large family here and a wonderfully supportive community.

I have a bachelor of education, and left a head teacher of mathematics position at a senior campus to return home to Gil.

I’ve been back a few years now and have had a wonderful time throwing myself into community life.

I teach scripture, tutor, mentor young adults, have volunteered for the Speedway, the Op Shop, Australia Day, ANZAC Day, Under The Gums - I’m even in your Coo-ee Choir.

What do you hope to bring to the Gilgandra Shire Council?

I’ve got great aspirations for this place, the first is that we adopt a real palpable appreciation for what we have here and collectively approach our planning from a surplus thinking model.

Primarily, I want to bring recognition to the drive and excellence and expertise and whole heartedness of so many in this town.

They work doing things we don’t want to do, working hours we don’t want to work, taking on huge responsibilities.

I would like us to know the systems and who works them and build community connection and respect through appreciation of this.

Why should people vote for you?

Over the last two-to-three years I have developed the strength to stand firm. I have always been an advocate for people and it’s truly just who I am.

I’m not afraid of change if its advantageous.

I have a real interest in the workings and responsibilities of the council.

I will be doing my utmost to represent all community members.
