Why have you decided to run for council?

I decided to run for council again as I have enjoyed the previous terms and there wasn’t much interest from the community.

In the end there were two new people who nominated. It is always good to have an election.

After this turn of council in 2028 it will be important for people to support Gilgandra and stand for council.

It takes not a lot of time but you need love for Gilgandra and common sense.

What project/s are you most interested in this new term?

In the new term of council there is the issue of the swimming pool which will need a lot of attention. It will be expensive but it is needed.

Regional towns in central west NSW cannot be without a swimming pool in the summer time.

I am also interested in Cooee Lodge along with Jack Towney and the Cooee Retirement Village. These which are mainly for the older community, and are very important for the people of Gilgandra.

They are all very important for council’s Towards 5000 Strategy.

What do you hope to bring to the Gilgandra Shire Council?

What I wish there to be in the Gilgandra council is stability. We have had this over the last number of years and I hope it will continue into the future.

We have respected each other’s opinions, maybe disagreed, but still respected their right to have the opinion.

What we don’t have is groups within the council. The worst thing for a town is a divided council.

What stands out to you about the last term of council?

We are working together with Royal Flying Doctor Service and NSW Health to improve the medical position in Gilgandra.

Gil is growing, and for the local business that is a big positive.

The Towards 5000 population strategy will only add to the strength of Gilgandra.

What are some key issues you plan to focus on?

Rural roads are always a problem, and will always be, as long as we can’t afford to have all roads sealed.

Maybe the use of road base in some wet areas would help.

The Inland Rail Project is starting up again and protesting against it won’t change anything.

My advice is to negotiate as hard as you can with Inland Rail and then get yourself a good compensation lawyer and try and get some fair compensation.
