National Park Road upgrades continue
After several months of work, upgrades to Baronne Creek have been completed.
Earlier this year in July, Gilgandra Shire Council (GSC) began works towards sealing 12.5 kilometres of National Park Road, aimed at ensuring road access during major weather events and improving overall travel quality.
As an extension of these works, GSC set to repair and upgrade the Baronne Creek floodway.
Mayor Doug Batten said that “the Baronne Creek flood mitigation works will complement the current sealing 12.5km of National Park Road, further enhancing resilience by providing families and farmers in the [area] along this road improved all weather access, leading to greater liveability for this region”. Appointed to the task was Lithgow-based civil construction company Central Industries; “It’s a great opportunity that will not only provide safe and reliable access for grain distribution, but also families and travellers across all weather events,” said Central Industries general manager Lincoln Dent.
The Baronne Creek upgrade finished after a slight two-week delay due to weather, and the project stayed within its budget of $2,000,000.
“This project has been well received by the local community and those who frequently travel along the road. Council thanks the community for their patience as we complete this marquee project,” GSC commented to The Gilgandra Weekly.
Sealing of National Park Road is still ongoing, with the majority of the major works expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2025.
