The footpath and kerb out front of Miller Street’s new GIL Library Hub has been causing concerns among locals due to its raised height compared to the rest of the street. Pho

As the construction of the new GIL Library Hub gradually finishes, residents have begun raising concerns about the raised kerb outside the building. Several residents have noted that in front of The GIL Library Hub, the kerb is noticeably steeper compared to the rest of Miller Street. “For the elderly and the disabled, it poses a problem,” one resident commented. “It’s too steep to step down safely. I’ve had to help people with walkers down and be careful with my kids when walking past.” For those with mobility issues, the height of the kerb can be too much to climb comfortably or safely.

Another problem posed is for small cars and cars that sit low to the ground. Complaints of the new section of the path being slippery have also been reported. “I can’t park in front of the [library hub] because the kerb is too high for me to open my doors,” a resident told The Gilgandra Weekly. “It’s not much of a problem for me since [Miller street] has a lot of parking, but I can see it being a problem during the busier hours. Because we know of it, it’s not a real problem… just inconvenient, that’s all.”

Others are concerned about the lack of cover and area to utilize during fundraising events since the street stall has been removed to cater for the new plaza space. Gilgandra Shire Council has been contacted for comment on these issues.
