Tooraweenah CWA turns 100 - Photos from the day

Tooraweenah CWA Branch members wish to acknowledge and thank the following people and organisations for their contribution in making our 100 year birthday celebration such a resounding success on Saturday, April 12.

To over 70 guests who travelled from Fairfield, Wongarbon, Dubbo, Collie, Baradine, Coonabarabran, Purlewaugh, Gilgandra, and Tooraweenah districts.

Special thank you to Donna (nee Buchanan) and husband David Brooker and Donna’s sisters Heather and Dianne for the beautiful Centenary Book Mark, which they gifted to everyone who attended.

Gilgandra Shire Council mayor Doug Batten and his wife Cheryl, Macquarie Group president Marjory Blatch and special guest, branch patron Cluna Gale as well as our MC Cr Brian Mockler.

Members of the Tooraweenah CWA and Lions Club, family members and friends, Dan Harte, Geoff Hill and Simon, Mitch and Tim Blackman.

Many thanks to Heather Larkin for esearching our history from minute books, newspaper articles and reading through lots of material to compile, then complete the draft of ‘Tooraweenah CWA Memories Through the Years’ Booklet.

This will be published after the inclusion of photographs and highlights from the 100 year celebration.

We acknowledge the hard work of Mrs Mignon Buchanan in collating the early history of the branch and thank her daughter, Mrs Donna Brooker, for preserving and sharing this wonderful information.

Cathy Watt, Leila Blackman, Elizabeth Estens, Sue Armstrong, Fran Estens and others for sharing their special memories.

To all families who donated photographs and items for inclusion and for display.

Many thanks to Cath Waller for the 100 Year Birthday Cake and to our photographer Tanya Hutchison and journalist/photographer Sharon Bonthuys, deputy editor PPNS News Media and journalist Sophia McCaughan for attending our celebration.

Branch vice-president Heather Larkin, acknowledges Jill Blackman for all her hard work behind the scenes.

Tooraweenah P&C Association for catering such a wonderful spread of delicious food and drinks so well presented, throughout the day.

To the Emu Farm (Nicole and Penny Henley) and Seanne Jenkin – honey, for their gifts for our guests.

Dick Estens for gifting his orange and mandarin fresh juices to share and finally students from Shellharbour Anglican School for their help with heavy lifting to set up the site then set it right at the end of the day.

With memories shared, lots of laughter, joy and celebration of 100 years of Tooraweenah CWA Branch history and their members’ contribution to the Tooraweenah community and beyond.

A day to remember with joy, warmth, friendships renewed and regained.
