Gilgandra basketball players travelled to the courts of Bathurst and Orange last weekend (Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7) to compete in the last round of Basketball NSW’s Western Junior League (WJL). With finals approaching, the weekend was important to determine the final placements on the WJL ladder, affording the higher-ranked teams greater opportunities to win in the finals.

Dominic and Sebastian Manusu’s under 18s Dubbo Rams Blue team won all three games of the weekend, with the twins’ presence on the courts assisting with defence and baskets. Their team finished first on the division two ladder, putting them in a comfortable position for the finals.

Ethan Morris’ U18s Dubbo Rams White team are also looking forward to the finals, placing second in division one. Ethan played most of the first half of the game against Orange, taking charge as point guard for the game.

Darcy Morris and Cale McEwan played in Orange, their Dubbo U16s team remaining undefeated all competition, leaving them at the top of the division one ladder.

Milla Morris and the Dubbo U14s girl’s team faced some tough competition, winning two and losing two games this weekend. The highlight for Gilgandra fans was Milla’s basket, which drew a foul, sending her to the free-throw line. Milla’s team will play in Division two of the U14s girls finals.

The Basketball NSW Western Junior League finals are scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 at Griffith.
